I live in Headley, Hampshire and have been a Registered Learning Disability Nurse for over 20 years with a BSc Honours in Nursing and a MSc in Mental Health . I had always had an interest in Reflexology and it had personally benefited me, therefore in 2018 an opportunity arose for me to undertake Level 3 ITEC Diploma in Reflexology at the prestigious Wilbury School of Massage in Brighton.
I found that I was able to transfer a lot of my nursing knowledge and skills to enhance my role as a Reflexologist. I have always had an interest in neurological impairments, having members of my family with Parkinson's, Dementia and Acquired Brain Injury. It was due to this that I discovered Functional Reflex Therapy, using reflexology techniques I learnt to deliver a relaxation routine to this specific group of clients. I under took this Accredited 3 day course in 2018 www.functionalreflextherapy.co.uk
Reflexology works on a system of energy zones throughout the body ending in the feet and hands. The feet and hands are mini maps of the systems in the body and therefore can be accessed and stimulated by using a massaging technique on the corresponding area.
The treatment can reduce nerve tension present in the body, as approximately 7000 nerves are stimulated during a reflexology session. Therefore it can have a deep relaxing effect and in turn reduce symptoms of stress, you might even fall asleep!
In some areas of the feet and hands it is possible to feel crystal type deposits representing the imbalance in the corresponding to parts of the body. Through massage it is possible to breakdown these crystals causing them to be taken up by the blood circulation system and eliminated from the body.
My clients have reported they have found reflexology to be beneficial for their:
